Episode Summary
Meet the owners, employees and guests of the Double D Ranch- and let the Cowgirl fun begin!
Details about the Episode
The episode starts with a travel advertisement style introduction to the Double D Ranch, which is nestled in the heart of the Chocella Valley, rated the top all girl guest ranch in the west!
The Double D is owned by Cricket Earp (a direct descendant of Wyatt Earp) and Lu Brown, whom introduce the weekend cowgirl competition. Visitors to the ranch come to them as tenderfoots and by Sunday leave as “bona fide” cowgirls.
We meet the girls in a reality-tv show style.
Silverado – Blue team
Jo – leader of the Silverado. She is the leader because it was her idea for her and her friends, Meridith and Dee to come to the ranch. It seems she gets her two friends to go on a lot of adventure themed trips as she is an adventure junkie and very competitive. Her first girlfriend was a rodeo girl from Oklahoma.
Meridith– – Jo’s friend. She was shanghaied into coming as Jo told her the trip was to a spa in La Quintas, not a ranch. She is a fan of tough femmes in tight jeans and lets it be known she is available. She also hits on the camera person as well as the sound person during the introduction. Not use to “rustic” conditions. She is not a quitter and hates to lose.
Dee – – Jo’s best friend (according to Dee) and the only reason she is at the ranch. She is a little allergic to horses. She has gone on a number of adventures with Jo including: white water rafting (she almost drowned), swimming with sharks, and driving race cars.
Tombstone – Red Team
Babe – leader of the Tombstone team – She has been to the ranch four times before. She wants to break another record by winning the Best All-Around Cowgirl. She takes the competition very seriously, making sure there are no weak links in her “Tombstone”.
Dakota – attended the ranch last year; she was on Babe’s team. Babe calls her the Dakota Kid. Loves horses and likes coming out for a girl’s weekend to get-away from the city and the guys.
Abby – been rodeoing all her life (Jo calls her a Ringer). Feels like it is a nice vacation as she is not sleeping in her trailer with her horses and has her own bed. Plans on writing her horses some letters. She is at the Ranch for the fun and to meet some nice cowgirls.
The credits roll, shot in a sepia tone, old-movie format, the six women dressed as gunslingers, rifles and guns at the ready, it’s a showdown at the Double-D corral. They all aim, fire and…
Jump to the actual ranch, the two teams coming into the horse corral, meeting each other for the first time. The air is thick with competitive tension and posturing.
The Blue Team is set up with horses, the Red Team already having practiced yesterday. The Blue Team learns Babe and Dakota have been there before and Abby is a professional rodeo rider. Babe and Dakota mention they won belt buckles in previous competitions, this sparks Meridith’s interest as she liked prizes and winning. Dee is excited about the weekend as she is sure it will be fun and everyone seems so nice.
We meet the wranglers: Sunny Trails, Rusty and Coon-Ass Kate (who seems to spit more than she talks). Sunny and Cricket have a brief discussion about the Blue Team not being very saddlewise and they need to be mounted on something gentle to ride. Jo protests and says she can take anything. She’s not ridden since she was a kid, but she had plenty of experience from a two hour trail ride in Kaui wearing flip flops and shorts without getting a single blister.
We cut to the Blue Team getting on their horses, Rusty helping Jo mount as the two try to figure out why Rusty seems familiar to Jo. Dee meets her horse, El Diablo.
Cut to the Blue Team in the Arena, practicing as Coon-Ass Kate attempts to give direction, the wrangler getting very fed up with the Blue Team’s skills. Meridith responds to Kate’s attitude with a speech about just coming to the ranch for some fun, relaxation and maybe strange pussy. Kate responds by giving Meridith the title of Mudsucker.
As Meridith contemplates the less than hoped for results of her talk with Kate, she sees the Red Team mounted up across the way. The screen switches into the sepia tone format from the credits, the Red Team now in western dress, wearing guns. They stare Meridith down, who shakes off the “daydream” and comments she needs a lot more sunscreen.
Cut to the horse corral, the Blue Team cleaning their saddles and chatting about how good the Red Team looked. Dee just wants to have fun, but Meridith has other ideas, “this is war”, she wants and needs to win.
The Red team also is chatting, knowing they can not let their guard down, they need to find the Blue Team’s weaknesses. Abby offers to ride bare back, misinterpreted by Babe who says ride naked to distract them. That brings up the realization by Abby that the Blue team are lesbians and the Red Team can use that by making them want the Red Team more than winning. Abby asks if Babe and Dakota are lesbians, both women quickly saying no. Dakota further volunteering she never kissed a girl, not even in college. Abby chimes in happily that she kisses girls, she kisses boys, she kisses horses and there was this one goat one time…
Cut to the “horsewash”, the girls are cleaning the horses. Cue the slo-mo camera work, lots of funky music, suds, water, wet t-shirt, daisy dukes and a very wet and soapy Abby. Pan to Meridith smoking as she holds a water hose, avidly watching the washing, she looks over and screams “Indians” as the camera cuts to the sepia theme and we see two “Indians” sitting on horses.
Bring on credits and some awesome outtakes.
